Data literacy among humanities students: skills, attitudes and training needs

  • Chloé Dubois — Université Laval
  • Antoine Mercier — Université de Montréal

Abstract

Digital practices in higher education are changing rapidly, and this contribution belongs to the track "Information literacy". It examines the data literacy skills and attitudes of humanities students in three universities. A validated self-assessment scale was administered to 540 students and complemented by six focus groups. Students feel confident reading charts but lack skills in data cleaning and critical assessment of datasets. These findings open avenues for student training and for supporting teaching teams, and they call for further comparative studies across institutions.
